Frameworks for Digital Health Engagement: A Scoping Review Protocol
Clinical Snapshot
PICO Framework
| P — Population | Users of digital health technologies across various healthcare settings |
| I — Intervention | Frameworks and instruments for conceptualising digital health engagement |
| C — Comparator | Not applicable (scoping review protocol) |
| O — Outcomes | Mapping of frameworks, conceptual coverage assessment, identification of gaps in digital engagement understanding |
Bottom Line
This scoping review protocol addresses a critical gap in understanding digital health engagement frameworks. While the research question is clearly focused and methodology appropriate, the protocol lacks sufficient methodological detail for full assessment. The planned review could provide valuable insights for Australian healthcare, particularly given ongoing digital health initiatives including My Health Record expansion and telehealth integration post-COVID-19. The focus on both adoption and sustained use is particularly relevant for addressing the common challenge of digital health technology abandonment. However, clinicians should await the completed review results before drawing practice implications. The work's value will ultimately depend on the comprehensiveness of the search strategy and quality of identified frameworks.

Abstract
Digital health technologies (DHTs) are increasingly integral to healthcare delivery, yet sustained engagement remains inconsistent across users and settings. This scoping review aims to map frameworks and instruments that conceptualise digital health engagement across adoption and sustained use. Searches were conducted in Scopus, Web of Science, ACM Digital Library, and PsycINFO. The review will clarify conceptual coverage and identify gaps in digital engagement.
