A two-phase clinical trial sponsored by NYU Langone Health is evaluating the mWEL digital toolkit — a personalised mHealth intervention — to improve mental health literacy and reduce depression and anxiety among teachers and caregivers in Ugandan primary schools. With 1,180 participants and peer community health worker support, the trial offers a potentially scalable model for addressing the mental health treatment gap across sub-Saharan Africa. Results are anticipated by mid-2027.
