A major US trial enrolling 2,814 emergency department patients is comparing two delivery models of the Safety Planning Intervention plus follow-up calls (SPI+) — one delivered by ED staff, the other via telehealth referral to a specialist Suicide Prevention Consultation Center. With results expected by 2027, findings could reshape how health systems design and resource post-discharge suicide prevention care globally.
