A landmark 6,000-patient randomised trial from National Taiwan University Hospital is evaluating whether AI-assisted upper endoscopy can reduce gastric cancer-specific mortality by improving detection of H. pylori infection and premalignant gastric lesions. With a primary endpoint of gastric cancer-related death and an estimated completion date of December 2028, this is among the most ambitious trials yet to test AI endoscopy against a hard clinical outcome. Gastroenterologists worldwide, including those managing high-risk populations in Australia, should follow this trial closely.
