Over 1,645 cyclosporiasis cases have been laboratory-confirmed in the US as of July 14, 2026, with more than 5,100 additional cases under analysis and the source still unidentified. Clinicians must consider the diagnosis in any patient with prolonged watery diarrhoea and recent fresh produce exposure, and ensure laboratory requests explicitly specify Cyclospora-targeted staining. The outbreak intersects with growing systemic pressures — including rising uninsured patient volumes and threatened research funding — that health system leaders cannot afford to overlook.
